This Los Angeles Deli Owner Might Be the One to Reunite Axl Rose and Slash of Guns N' Roses
If anyone can help restore Axl Rose and Slash's relationship, it just might be one Marc Canter. Canter, owner of a well known Los Angeles deli that shares his name, is a friend from Slash's childhood. He and also wrote a book, Reckless Road: Guns N' Roses and the Making of Appetite for Destruction, about his time with the band.
Uproxx is putting out a three-piece GNR documentary, the most recent installment of which is an intimate and telling profile of Marc Canter. In the documentary, Canter shows pictures of a young Slash, walks through the garage where Slash used to play when he was just 15 years old, and recovers the equipment he used to film Guns N' Roses' shows back in the day. Canter also recalls the 1986 show at the Troubadour that eventually got the band signed, showing pictures from the event.
"It's just a shame to watch two of my best friends that made beautiful music together not communicate at all for the wrong reasons," Canter says. He suggests reuniting Axl Rose and Slash by putting them together in the room where they had their first jam session. "Just put 'em in here without any management, any handlers, any roadies. I believe that the chemistry inside them, the gravitational pull, is so strong that if they would just walk in this room, music would pour out of their souls," he says.
