Did Bethenny Frankel Imply Black Women Should Hire White Men to Run Their Businesses?

Let's hope not.

This is problematic.

Entrepreneur Mary Pryor is saying that Real Housewife and Skinnygirl businesswoman Bethenny Frankel made some incendiary comments while speaking at Rent the Runway and UBS's Project Entrepreneur women's summit over the weekend. In a Huffington Post article that went up Tuesday, Pryor writes that Frankel said a number of things that had problematic implications for women—especially women of color.

There is reportedly no recording of the event. Below is an excerpt from Pryor's article:

"As a participant in Rent The Runway’s and UBS’s Project Entrepreneur, a new initiative to equip women founders with the tools and advice they need to thrive in the marketplace, I was stunned when Frankel implied that women should have sex with men in exchange for capital. I was offended when she expressed some kind of kinship with black women because she’s 'loud.' And I was taken aback when she advised those of us in the room to get business advice to hire a white man as the face of our companies."

Pryor says that she "tried to stand up" to Frankel, but was ultimately silenced. She posted a series of tweets about the incident on Monday morning. We included some select tweets of Pryor's here.

Project Entrepreneur responded to Pryor's tweets, apologizing to her and their guests on Monday afternoon. Frankel tweeted the following from her account today, when the HuffPo article started gaining traction. Her tweet was in response to a user posting about the article.

It's hard to tell what went down this past Saturday with no recording of the event—a strange occurrence, as Frankel says. But if Pryor's claims are true, these are some highly offensive remarks from Frankel.
