Eddie Trunk Talks About That Metal Show Returning To NYC For Season 13!

Well kids, the cat is out of the freaking bag. As consummate DJ, metal expert and host of the greatest show about all things metal and hard rock in the history of television, Eddie Trunk tweeted just moments ago, That Metal Show is coming back to The Big Apple this Saturday January 18th for lucky season 13! 13! How metal is THAT? That’s right, Eddie, Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson are going back to where it all began, the Capital Of The World, New York F***ing City! And what better day to announce it then today, National Metal Day!

That Metal Show started in NYC when it premiered on VH1 Classic in November 2008 and since then has been visited by some of the biggest names in music including members of Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden and Pearl Jam to name just a few. This season the show will be shot week to week in front of a live studio audience. We can’t say just yet who all’s been confirmed but we think you’ll be surprised and pleased when you find out who will be visiting. Eddie was kind enough to talk to us briefly about his hopes for the new season and what it will be like returning home after all those years filming in L.A.!

VH1: What’s the best part about That Metal Show returning to NYC?

Eddie Trunk: We're home! Honestly I would do the show anywhere but the NYC area is where we are all from and based. It's also where the show was born. The NYC fans have long asked if we would ever come back, and now we are! Can't wait!

What are you most looking forward to this season?

Further developing some of the new elements we introduced last season. We tried many new things last time around that many liked and rested some others. I think we will have a great balance going forward. The constant evolution of the show and the range of guests is what I love. Just doing it really! I still think there is a ton more we can grow into with TMS and it’s fun to continue the journey.

Who’s been your favorite TMS guest so far and why?

There are way too many to mention but Sammy Hagar is a guy that quickly comes to mind. The best guests are the guys that truly get the spirit of the show, can mix it up, and don't take it too seriously and aren't too sensitive. They can be objective and speak their mind. Lars Ulrich and Brian Johnson also come to mind but there’s so many.

Being that it today is National Metal Day, November 11th, what are your top 11 favorite hard rock and metal albums of all time?
