Our You Oughta Know Artists Made Music Gold With These Brilliant Collaborations

You Oughta Know Live In Concert is just one day away and we’re amped with anticipation. As we reflect on a year filled with music from Sam Smith, American Authors and more, we couldn’t help but think about when our YOK artists made modern classics with other musicians. What are the best collaborations featuring 2014’s YOK class?

We first came across Mary Lambert when she dropped vocals on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Same Love." Tove Lo jumped on Alesso's "Heroes (we could be)," and who could forget Sam Smith on Disclosure's "Latch?"

Read on to see our YOK artists' best joint tracks, but first, watch the video below for a taste of what Sam Smith's got in store during tomorrow's You Oughta Know concert. The show kicks off at 9/8C on Thursday, November 13 on VH1.

Mary Lambert collaborating with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on "Same Love"

Mary Lambert lent her soulful voice to this powerful song promoting gay rights and marriage equality. She sang this gem with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis at the 2014 Grammy Awards. Thirty-three gay couples were wed during the groundbreaking performance which also featured Madonna. Lambert is this month's YOK artist.

Vance Joy collaborating with Illy on "RipTide"

Vance Joy, September's YOK artist, sang his hit song "Riptide" with Australian rapper Illy at a live performance. While Illy took on the verses, Joy sang the chorus and played his ukulele on this contagious jam.

Bleachers collaborating with Grimes on "Take Me Away"

Indie band Bleachers brought in songstress Grimes for this electronic tune. Their smooth voices compliment each other and it's one of the most ambient trips on the group's debut album. Bleachers joined our YOK roster for August.

Tove Lo collaborating with Alesso on "Heroes (We Could Be)"

Tove Lo, our YOK artist for July, contributed her voice to this uplifting anthem by Alesso. In this pumping dance track, Tove Lo preaches, "We are a different kind/ We can do anything."

Sam Smith collaborating with Disclosure on "Latch"

This catchy jam from electro twosome Disclosure features the distinct vocal sounds of Sam Smith. After this song hit the radio, Smith was catapulted into the spotlight. The singer was our YOK artist in June.

Chvrches collaborating with Jim Kerr on "Honest Town"

Iain Cook, a member of Chvrches, co-wrote this song with Jim Kerr of Simple Minds. The pair, both from Glasgow, delivered daunting lyrics in this epic ode. Chvrches became part of this year's YOK class in April.

Aloe Blacc collaborating with Avicii on "Wake Me Up"

This song was a total smash hit of 2013. Aloe Blacc's folk styled vocals paired perfectly with the heartfelt lyrics and upbeat rhythm. The singer was March's YOK artist.

American Authors collaborating with Tiesto on "Believers"

Tiesto remixed this American Authors track that features inspiring lyrics and a beat anyone can jam to. American Authors was February's YOK artist.

A Great Big World with Christina Aguilera on Say Something"

This tragic tune seriously tugs at the heartstrings. It's a great example of the melding of two different vocal styles over a soft melody. A Great Big World kicked off 2014 by being our first YOK artist of the year.

Now that you've relived such a great year of music, we know you're pumped for tomorrow's concert. Once again, join us for You Oughta Know Live In Concert on November 13 at 9/8C on VH1.
