VH1 Stars React to the Murder Of Alton Sterling and Call for Action

We need more than a hashtag.

Alton Sterling, more than just a name but now another hashtag, is reportedly the 558th person to be killed at the hands of authority in 2016. Sterling, 37, was killed Tuesday, July 5, 2016 outside of a convenience store.

CNN reported that, police showed up "after an anonymous 911 caller reported a man threatening him with a gun." Some type of altercation then occurred that was captured in a video that has now gone viral. The video shows Sterling being shot. The sequence of events remains unclear, as different witnesses hold different accounts. The fact still remains that Sterling, yet another black man, was killed at the hands of the people sworn to protect him.

Several VH1 stars refuse to remain silence and are speaking out, and calling for action.

Love & Hip Hop Atlanta's Joseline Hernandez

"#AltonSterling #F--kThePolice Y'all suppose to help us but yet you kill us every chance you get???? Really? Why? Why? Because you feel like you can really? Police are not what they need to be they are careless controlling son of b---s i don't speak for all of them but 90% I encounter are son of b---s. Sad sad sad we gotta bring kids into this world. The question is what can we do????? And then when we speak up we are out of control."

Love & Hip Hop NY's Cardi B

The Game

The rapper posted the disturbing video of the "altercation" alongside a passionate caption writing, "All we gone do is repost it & type "SMH" over & over again huh ?? Then we gone put #JusticeForAltonSterling & #BlackLivesMatter hashtags on Instagram & pretend that's us taking action huh ??? What happened to the generation of people who stood together, held hands & took to the streets peacefully or violently if it had to come to that & wouldn't move or be detoured from that stance until real results were handed over to us ?!?!? Huh ??? WTF is wrong with us these days that we will sit here & watch a video of yet another innocent man shot & killed in cold blood by police officers in this country ?!?!? WTF is wrong with ME, YOU & everyone else who will watch the video & read this caption & DO NOTHING until it happens again... Then what we gone do ?? The same shit we been doing... Hashtag #JUSTICEFOR[insert name here__________] & #BLACKLIVESMATTER when it really seems that they don't at all... & if #BLACKLIVES don't even matter to #BLACKPEOPLE why the f--k would they matter to anyone else ?!?!?!? What on earth is wrong with US ?!?!?!? But lemme stop so we can get back to turning up, dab'n & hittin "them folks" while this man lay dead in a county morgue for selling some f---g CD's & asking what he was being detained for ?!!?!?!?!? Basketball Wives LA's Brittish Williams

The reality star wrote, "The video I just watched was disgraceful and pure murder. Something has to be done or the vicious cycle of police brutality will continue and affect our children's Children's and then so on and so fourth. #altonsterling"

Love & Hip Hop NY's Kaylin Garcia

She wrote, "Don't sit here and comment on my page and say it's not a race thing when the proof is in the pudding. This system is rigged. I wanted to be a police officer since I was little....I was in a police explorer program that taught me the in's and out's of becoming a police officer. I started as a shrimp and worked my way up to Master Sergeant and then worked my way up and graduated as a Lieutenant of my platoon. During my time in the academy our mentor was like a father to us, a protector... Woke up the next day to him on the news arrested for molesting my best friend. I didn't know anything.. All he got was 5 years probation.... Was that justice ? That was the day I no longer wanted to become a police officer .. I say this to say .. How are we suppose to see the police as protectors when some aren't really protecting.... So no I'm not a cop hater, I'm just tired of seeing shit like this being unjustified. They need a new evaluation system for officers. They should be able to pass an aggression test, a physical test, a psychological test, shit even a lie detector test and must complete multiple training courses throughout their CAREER to keep them active so they don't feel the need to be lazy and just reach for the gun to solve the problem. Half of these officers are over weight, they are not trying to run ? They just go straight for the trigger. Get these lazy ass officers off the street and put officers in that can use their physical force 1st. #RetrainedOfficers #justiceforsterlingfamily"

Hit the Floor's Rob Riley

"When will this end? The conversations must not stop. #altonsterlin"

Love & Hip Hop Hollywood's Jason Lee

"I don't even know where to start... #AltonSterling."

Love & Hip Hop NY's Sexxy Lexxy

"It Feels Like This Will Never End, I Fear For My Life and My Close Ones Lives."

Love & Hip Hop Atlanta's Kalenna Harper

The singer wrote, "#ALTONSTERLING IM SO TIRED OF SEEING THIS May God send comfort and justice to his family..."

Love & Hip Hop NY's Miss Mo Money

"Another BLACK life taken by the police, when will this stop? #BlacklivesMatter I'm calling on my sisters & brothers we have to stick together and take a stand #formation #AltonSterling"

The first step in solving a problem is acknowledging that one exists. Our condolences to the Sterling family.
