All the Ways 'Game of Thrones' and 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' Are Basically the Same

The high stakes drama runs deep from King's Landing to Calabasas.

By Claire Downs

If you haven't spoken to a nerd lately, Game of Thrones Season 6 is premiering this Sunday on HBO. Two Sundays later, quaint little family show set in Calabasas, Keeping Up with the Kardashians Season 12, premieres on E!. Though both shows compete to own your Sunday night attention span, they truly speak to different audiences. The characters in Game of Thrones fear for their lives; the Kardashians fear that they won't be able to finish their salads before they have to go to a photoshoot. But as a fan of both, I can honestly say there are more similarities than you might think.

Both have drama, intrigue, and a lot of full-frontal nudity. (Only female nudity, of course.) And on both shows, if you've missed a couple episodes, every time you tune back in, you have no idea WTF is going on. Here are all the ways Award-winning prestige drama, Game of Thrones may as well be Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

A Ruthless Queen Dominates Both Shows

Whether it's managing Joffrey's marriage prospects, or managing Kendall's Fashion Week schedule, Cersei (Lena Headey) and Kris can both be spotted controlling their kingdoms. Both are quick to cry, have a mean side-eye that can kill, and are somehow incredibly relatable. Plus they both don't seem to age.

Another Queen in a Far-Off Land Has Bigger Fish To Fry

Caitlyn Jenner is basically Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). She rules from a far-off land as the Khaleesi of Malibu, which allows her to be above the family squabbles of LA's Westeros - Calabasas. And, like Daenerys fights for equal rights of disadvantaged slaves, Caitlyn has bigger issues to work with as a spokeswoman of the Trans Movement.

The Smartest One Also Has All The Best Outfits

Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) is known for her cunning wit, her cleverness, her beauty and for having the best dresses of any female character on GoT. As a renowned fashion model, Kendall Jenner is known for all of the above.

Both Have Sisters Who Can't Quit Their Jerk Husbands

Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Kourtney Kardashian have both been married to some pretty sh*tty guys. Sansa with Ramsay Bolton and Kourtney with Scott Disick. While Sansa's treatment by Ramsay has obviously been much much worse, Scott's addiction and cheating issues have plagued Kourtney's life. I am hoping that this is the season we see both Sansa and Kourtney break free and live their best lives!

One Sister Has The Magical Power of Morphing Her Face

Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) recently learned the magical power of the faceless people. It's no secret that Kylie Jenner has also recently acquired this magical power with the help of wigs and cosmetic enhancements. For both shows, I'm glued to my seat, because I have no idea what either of them are going to look like!

Everybody Loves the [Possibly] Adopted One

It was revealed in Season 1 of GOT that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is adopted. It was never confirmed nor denied on Keeping Up with the Kardashians whether or not Khloe Kardashian is adopted (and my favorite conspiracy theory, as OJ Simpson's daughter). Both Khloe and Jon are the most down-to-earth and relatable members of the family, and we love watching all of their adventures. Side note - Kit Harington and Khloe would be a cute couple!

The People Least-Featured Seem Like They're Having More Fun

Rob & Blac are like the people who live in Dorn (a place known for its wild parties and free love). Throughout the seasons, we've constantly heard about them, but they are rarely featured on the show. Like the people of Dorn, Rob and Chyna piss off the major characters and honestly look like they are having the most fun.

Deceased Fathers Named Robert

The most glaring comparison is that both main families have a deceased patriarch named Robert - Robert Kardashian and King Robert Baratheon who were taken too soon. Both also surrounded themselves with some questionable friends (OJ Simpson for Kardashian and a group of suspicious glad-handers for Baratheon).

Both TV Shows Have Spawned Terrible Copycats

After the success of both Game of Thrones and Keeping Up with the Kardashians of course cable networks are looking to cash in on the popularity of both shows, by creating poor-quality copycat shows. In case you've forgotten, GoT spawned clones with low-ratings like Reign, Olympus, and Marco Polo. And we have the Kardashians to thank for reality shows like Living Lohan, Shahs of Sunset and The Jacksons: Next Generation

Both TV Shows Love a Disastrous Wedding

Fans of Game of Thrones have the "Red Wedding" seared into their memories as much as fans of Keeping Up with the Kardashians will never forget the high drama surrounding the Kris Humphries era.

Kanye Has Influenced the Fashion On Both Shows

Both shows have strong Yeezy fashion influences. Whether you're standing very still in Madison Square Garden, or attempting to overtake an army of White Walkers, Yeezy Season 3 is go-everywhere fashion!

All of this has us so ready for season 6 of Game of Thrones. Check out this clip where we test the geography knowledge of GoT super fans.
