Gloria Estefan Footed the Hospital Bill for an 8-Year Old Boy with Cerebral Palsy Because She's Amazing
Gloria Estefan is turning the beat around for an 8-year-old boy who really needs it.
Gloria donated $36,000 to cover the hospital bill for two parents whose son, Nico Katrib, has cerebral palsy. Nico weighed just one pound at the time of his birth, according to People, and his parents were told that he would be met with health complications throughout his life.
Nico's mother, Yordanka Fernandez, caught wind of a treatment that could potentially ameliorate her son's condition. That treatment costs $36,000. Yordanka landed a story about her son's situation in the Miami Herald to help raise awareness and incite people to click on a GoFundMe link to donate money towards the treatment costs.
Gloria Estefan, who saw the link after a friend showed it to her, decided to cover all of the hospital costs for the Katrib family, urging them to keep what they had already raised via GoFundMe for "other important expenses."
"I clicked the link and I saw that Nico's mom had been doing everything in her power to get him to the institute," Gloria, who was in an almost fatal bus crash about 25 years ago, told People. "It was so emotional," she said of meeting Nico and his family. "He was adorable. He gave me kisses and knew my name."
That's some Friday inspiration for you. Truly amazing, Gloria.
