Agent Coulson supposedly died in The Avengers, so then why is Clark Gregg playing him on the new spin-off television series, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? "I think I'm alive because [the fans] wanted it!" Gregg told us at Comic-Con last week.

Yes…but how is Agent Coulson still alive? More importantly, what happened to Agent Coulson's beloved Captain America trading cards? Gregg had some enticing answers...

"We'll find something out right away," Gregg teased, but he was clear that we wouldn't get all the answers from just the first episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. "I don't know if even Phil Coulson knows what he's doing there."

As for Agent Coulson's Captain America trading cards? "It's certainly one of my main questions as Phil Coulson is 'Where the hell are my cards and how did they get all this blood on them?' So, I'd be surprised if we didn't address that at some point."

We also got a chance to chat with Gregg about why he thinks fans have connected so strongly to Agent Coulson, who is not a superhero or a part of the existing Marvel mythos.

Gregg believes it's because "he's a geek. He's a fan. He grew up reading these comics. It's no accident that he ended up in S.H.I.E.L.D. It was a dream come true…I get to be the fan's avatar."

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuts on ABC this fall and we'll finally find out what Agent Coulson thought when he found out Nick Fury got blood splattered all over his cards.
