The Soul Train Awards 2013 aired on BET last night. The program was hosted by Anthony Anderson and honored all that is good and golden in the land of soul and R&B. Not so good and golden? Some of the outlandish outfits that the night's biggest stars sported on stage--and the red carpet. We're sad to say that we're looking at you, K. Michelle...
Soul is at the heart of the Soul Train Awards, which means it's important for the artists and celebrities present to listen to their souls and be true to their selves. Unfortunately, not everyone's inner self has the best sartorial instincts. Rapper Slick Rick showed up looking like a pastel pirate on Easter Sunday and R&B songstress Ashanti wore a macrame dress that maybe should have stayed in the craft closet.
Some stars, like VH1's own K. Michelle and the lovely Tamar Braxton had brilliant nights. K. Michelle snapped up the Best New Artist Award and Braxton took home three awards. The two divas also killed it on the red carpet. However, once they took the stage, their looks lacked a little razzle dazzle. In fact, it looked like the two singers had chosen to wear cheap knock-offs of recent Katy Perry and Lady Gaga looks. Not good, ladies.
Still, at least these celebs tried to inject some soul into their ensembles. Wolf Blitzer showed up in a staid business suit that had all the soul of a zombie.
If you missed the Soul Train Awards 2013 last night, there will be an encore on BET on Tuesday, December 3 at 7/6 C PM!
