#FAIL: 10 Most Epic Music Award Show Crashes
Every year millions of people sit down in front of their televisions to watch their favorite artists win awards or perform their hits. But little did they know that they would also get a little extra with the usual program. Throughout the years we have witnessed artists and fans lose their minds and do the craziest things, from a spazzing out on stage next to a rock legend to an artist wrecking what should have been a very special moment for another artist. The history of music awards shows are littered with acceptance speech crashers and performance crashes. Here are 10 of the most memorable! Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the #FAIL Awards.
10. Nirvana's Krist Novoselic and his guitar at the 1992 VMAs
At the height of grunge, Nirvana took the stage at the 1992 VMAs to perform their hit "Lithium." Like most of Nirvana’s performance everyone knew that it was time to rock out. However, no one knew that the ensuing chaos would cause bloodshed. Towards the end of their performance, Krist Novoselic thought it would be a good idea to toss his bass in the air and catch it. That was the plan, but that is not what happened. Instead of Novoselic catching it in his hands, he caught it right in the forehead! Amazingly, he was ok! The paramedics checked him out and bandaged his head. But that's not all: shortly before the performance ended, Nirvana got three uninvited crashers on to the stage with them. If you look closely you can see that three fans jumped on to the stage, quickly runs across, and dive into the crowd. The funny part about this chaos is that instead of the crowd catching the divers everyone moved out of the way and let them fall to the ground. I guess they know better now. EVERYONE gets a #FAIL.
9. Shawn Colvin and ODB (Ol’ Dirty Bastard) at the 1998 Grammys
Before Erykah Badu and Wyclef Jean announced the winner of Song of the Year, ODB made his way to the stage and gave Badu a kiss on the cheek. He then proceeded to grab one of the microphones off the stage and go into a tirade about his group, Wu-Tang Clan, losing Best Rap Album to Puff Daddy. After making everyone aware that his outfit "costed a lot of money," Wu-Tang should have won and that "Wu-Tang is for da churdren" (we think he was trying to say children) he was politely pushed off the stage. Now I know it is bad to speak ill of the dead so I will leave it at R.I.P. O.D.B. but you get a #FAIL.
8. Bob Dylan and the Soy Bomb Dude at the 1998 Grammys
We have to give it up to Bob Dylan for being a true professional. During his 1998 performance of "Love Sick" a shirtless man with "Soy Bomb" scrolled on his chest walked onto the stage and started dancing, or possibly having a seizure. Thankfully, Dylan kept a straight face and kept it moving. Now if that were us we would have fallen down laughing until we cried. We're all for freedom of expression and everybody being able to dance, but come on now. This guy would have never made it past the first round of So You Think You Can Dance. We guess he does think he can dance. We give the "Soy Bomb" dude a great big soy bomb #FAIL. But we give Mr. Dylan a #WINNING for just being a really cool dude.
7. Limp Bizkit and Tim Commerford from Rage Against the Machine at the 2000 VMAs
Before Limp Bizkit got out of their seats to accept their award for Best Rock Video, the bassist for Rage Against the Machine, Tim Commerford, was plotting to disrupt the entire show. As Limp Bizkit walked to the podium, Commerford thought it would be a smart idea to climb up a stage decoration. While Limp Bizkit accepted their award they were unable to give a proper speech because everyone was to distracted by the chaos that was going on behind them. As Commerford perched himself atop the structure swaying it back and forth the audience started shouting. What where they shouting, you ask? We're glad you asked. While Commerford thought everyone was chanting his name he soon realized that they were shouting "JUMP!" Really dude, you though they'd support your shenanigans? Nope! When security finally got Commerford down he was handcuffed and arrested, but not without putting up a fight. He spent the night in jail and pled guilty to disorderly conduct. #FAIL
6. Justice and Kanye West at the 2006 MTV Europe Awards
Kanye really showed his true colors at the 2006 MTV Europe Award. Apparently he felt that he should have been the only artist to win an award. In a true GH-A-ETTO move, Kanye rushed the stage and interrupted Justice's acceptance speech. He proclaimed that his video should have won for best video because it cost a million dollars to make. Really, Kanye! You feel you should have won for that, how about you take a chill pill and sit down and let the real winners accept their award. You're not going to win everything and just because you chose to spend that much on a video doesn't mean people are going to think it's the best. You get a ginormous #FAIL and put in time out. If you're going to act like a child we’re going to treat you like one.
5. Panic! at the Disco and Six at the 2006 VMAs
When Panic! at the Disco won Video of the Year Award at the 2006 VMAs, they were truly surprised. In the process of receiving their award a man by the name of Sixx grabbed the microphone and started ranting that MTV never gave him his own show. Well now Mr. Sixx, we're not sure what kind of show you were looking to put on the air but we're pretty sure after this stunt no one would have watched. By the way how did you get in here in the first place? SECURITY! Just for your name I’m giving you sixx #FAILs.
4. Jay Z, Alicia Keys and Lil Mama at the 2009 VMAs
OK, we do not know a single person in New York who doesn't like "Empire State of Mind" but one can truly say that Lil Mama was not in the right frame of mind when she decided to jump on the stage with Jay Z and Alicia Keys and get all up in Jay's face. GUURL!!! You have truly lost your ever-loving mind. Yes, the song is hot and yes we ALL know you are a New Yorker...but dang girl. She later explained that she started to get emotional and that is why she jumped on the stage. Next time you get that emotional take a Midol and sit your butt DOWN. Come on, that gets you, Lil Mama, a great big #FAIL
3. Taylor Swift and Kanye West at the 2009 VMAs
At the age of 20, Taylor Swift became the first country artist to win a MTV Video Music Award. Excited and overwhelmed, she took to the stage to accept her award and to give her speech. In the middle of her acceptance speech Kanye West jumped on stage and interrupted the songstress to proclaim that "Beyonce had the best video". When West gave the microphone back to Swift the poor girl was so shocked that she couldn't even finish her speech. The best part about the whole thing is that later in the show when Beyonce won her award she graciously called Taylor back on stage so that she could finish her speech. For Taylor and Beyonce they get a big #WINNING but for Kanye you get an epic #FAIL.
2. Jay Z, Kanye West, and a fan at the 2011 VMAs
Someone thought that Kanye needed a taste of his own medicine. During his joint performance with Jay Z of their hit song, "Otis," a fan thought it would be a good idea to jump on the stage. We're sure everyone would have loved it if the guy grabbed the microphone out of Kanye's hand and started ranting about how Bruno Mars had the best performance of the night. Unfortunately, security was on their game and quickly got the performance crasher off the stage. Maybe next time. We don’t know about you, but we would have loved to see what Kanye would have done if someone interrupted him. We're guessing a possible brawl, police, a padded room, and maybe a strait jacket for West. That’s a great big #FAIL on the Kanye getting kanyed but a great being #WINNING for Jay Z for not body slamming the fan.
1. Miguel and two fans at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards
I don’t know if Miguel thought he was Superman or a bird but he thought he was something. The "Adorn" singer thought it would be a smart idea to leap across a pit full of fans. Well guess what Miguel this was a huge #FAIL for you. At the end of his leap he kicked two female fans in the face and landed another one's skull. Miguel, sweetie, let’s keep the flying to birds and FICTIONAL superheroes, OH-KAY?
