Edward Norton might have been hosting Saturday Night Live, but last night Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center was invaded by an "Electric Lady." Janelle Monáe was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live and the soulful songstress dazzled the audience and danced her socks off with performances of "Dance Apocalyptic" and "Electric Lady."
For her first song of the night, Monáe performed The Electric Lady's latest single, "Dance Apocalyptic." Monáe eschewed her trademark tuxedo for a white blouse, white pants and black suspenders. She also wore flat black boots which helped her frenetically dance and slide on stage.
At one point, Monáe did jump down off of the stage to get closer to the crowd, but she didn't attempt anything as daring as when she danced on David Letterman's desk last month.
Later on, Monáe switched it up and donned a chic varsity style jacket to sing the eponymous single from her new album, "Electric Lady." The recording of "Electric Lady" features Solange, who didn't join Monáe last night. Instead, Monáe was assisted by her incredible back up band and her joyful performances were all about the music.
Saturday Night Live returns next weekend with host Kerry Washington and musical guest Eminem.
