Busta Rhymes Joins The "Twerk It" Movement With Album's Lead Single
Pharrell and Busta Rhymes cooked up a strip club/club banger for the summer with "Twerk It," the lead single from Busta's upcoming 10th album. There's not many successful rappers who can mesh rap-reggae into something that goes hard, but Busta delivered.
Pharrell, who produced it, played the record live at House of Vans in Brooklyn, which led to its release. At Premier Studios in Midtown NYC a mellowed Busta sat in front of the studio equipment with a red printed tee and jeans. His neck jewelry was minimal while his pinky finger was diamond shining. "The "Twerk It" record only been out 10 days and 67 stations across the country are banging it out," he said. Busta has a genuine demeanor that makes anyone talking to him comfortable. His storytelling is captivating. "This is just purely organic off the strength of it being leaked by Pharrell. The reaction was so crazy that it just forced it to be the first single." His thoughtful responses are articulate yet oh so Brooklyn as he talks about the album that has taken him four years to make.
The noticeable 90s Ms. Pac-Man and Mario Brothers video game production over Busta's Jamaican patois sounds futuristic. Chicks in Jamaica are already dutty wining at parties everywhere to Busta's "Come here gal, weh yuh a do, hmmm where you going?/Dun wid dat, dutty wine, Tony Matterhorn?/Bass a lick yuh, make it clap, go on go take it off/Set the trap, don’t fight you know your skin soft." We see dollar bills flying in the air in the near future as this women twerk it across the dance floor to this song.
The untitled album is his debut on Cash Money Records, but he feels no pressure. "The beautiful thing about it is I am allowed to do my part the way I deem fit," he said. With the heavy-hitting producers he's enlisted like Primo, J Dilla, Pete Rock, Dre, Scoop DeVille, Timbaland, Hi- Tek & Terrace Martin, Q-Tip, Alchemist and Salaam Remi there has to be some fire. "I definitely feel like this is the best album that I've made." The late Chris Lighty (Busta's manager for 22 years) agreed. The album is slated for release later this year. In the meantime "Twerk It" as much as possible.
