Queen B****? A Tribute To Beyonce's Shade Throwing
Let's get one thing straight: You do NOT mess with Beyonce! She will slice you down with a side-eye so strong your grandchildren will feel it. Hey, she's not the Queen for nothin'. The lovely, beautiful and talented Mrs. Carter is adored around the world for her music and good deeds, but she's not afraid to be tough as nails every now and again. We've collected 10 of our very favorite diva-tastic moments from over the years. So now, without further ado, here are Beyonce's shadiest moments!
10. Riri Rivalry
Rumors of Beyonce's beef with Rihanna go way back (and even continue to this day). When Complex asked her to comment on the Riri rivalry, Bey delivered with a masterclass in passive-agression, saying "I have an authentic, God-given talent, drive, and longevity that will always separate me from everyone else."
9. Right On Target
Beyonce herself used to frequent Target (you just know she called it "Tar-JAY"), but when the retail giant refused to stock her new album in December, some revenge was in order. Soon she was seen at a Wal-Mart in Massachusetts, handing out $37,500 worth of gift cards. Bey: 0, Target: 0.
8. Not Keeping Up With The Kardashians
When Carter family friend Kanye West started dating Kim Kardashian, Beyonce was rumored to be unhappy with being associated with reality TV royalty. Witnesses say that she and sister Solange were giving Kim some serious cold shoulder at the 2012 BET Awards. "I was there and could see Bey and Solange throwing shade,” they told Hollywoodlife.com. "She wasn’t even talking to her and Bey didn’t even give Kim a hug or a f---ing high-five or nothing when she won her awards,” the eyewitness reported.
7. Pizza Protest
The day Jay Z announced to the world that they would both embarking on a 22-day vegan diet challenge, Beyonce was spotted out in an epic pepperoni pizza body suit! A not-so-sutble protest, or just mourning for some Papa Johns?
6. Praise For Michelle...Kinda
Bey was in the news recently for cropping her old bandmate Michelle Williams out of an Instagram photo, but we found ourselves scratching our heads at this note she shared after Williams complieted her theatrical run in Fela. "Women who are afraid to just be"? Whoa, tone down the praise a bit there. Sounds like the backhanded compliment to end all backhanded compliments.
5. Keyshia Cole Gets Stomped
To be fair, Cole did the fire the first shots. The entertainer called Beyonce out with a series of angry Tweets, blasting her new song "Bow Down" in March 2013. "First 'Women need to Stick together,' now bitches better Bow. Smh. But it's all G!" she wrote. The comments drew the ire of mega producer The-Dream, but there was worse to come. For some reason, Keyshia thought it was a good idea to attend a Beyonce concert in New Orleans...right in the front row! Bey definitely caught sight, and sent her some serious shade from the stage. Luckily it looks like these two have buried the hatchet.
4. The Crop Heard 'Round The World
Kelly Rowland paid tribute to Aaliyah by putting up a throwback shot showing the late singer hanging with her and Beyonce. The tribute must have seemed like a good idea to Bey, because a short while later she "regrammed" the same picture...cropping out Kelly!
3. Second-Lead What?
Now we're serving up some vintage shade for Kelly in this classic clip from 1998. Check the side-eye Bey sends Kelly's way when she introduces herself as the group's "second lead vocalist." And then she seems to throw in a loud faux-cough in for good measure. The sass is overwhelming, but former DC LeToya Luckett, who's also in the clip, denies that it was quite as shady as we think.
2. Vintage Side-Eye, Part II
Throw-back Bey is at it again, this time with Farrah Franklin. "When push came to shove I was able to sing and dance," says Farrah to an interviewer. Judging by the hilariously shocked look her face, Beyonce disagrees. Perhaps this is why Farrah only lasted in the group for five months...?
1. Bow Down, B-tches
And then there's this...Everything about it. "I know when you were little girls you dreamt of being in my world. Don’t forget it, don’t forget it. Respect that, bow down bitches!" It's been rumored that the lines are not-so-subtle digs at Keri Hilson and Keyshia Cole, but their pointed enough to ward off any potential haters.
