2013 VMAs: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Bring Out Jennifer Hudson For Intimate Performance

After a breakout year, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis brought the house down with a stirring performance of "Same Love" that included surprise guest, Jennifer Hudson. The hip-hop duo, winner of the "Best Video with a Social Message," performed their pro-gay marriage song that turned out to be an unexpected hit of the summer.

While Lady Gaga's "Applause" went for a bit of comedy and Miley Cyrus twerked for everyone to see, Macklemore slowed things down a bit. NBA player Jason Collins, who came out earlier this year, introduced the duo - setting the tone for the segment. And even though Barclays Center seats thousands of fans, the rapper's performance made the venue feel like a private showcase.

The best part was Jennifer Hudson and (the song's hook singer) Mary Lambert singing the hook at the end. The two closed out the song with a display of vocals that proved how talented both singers are.
