Awards season is kicking off this week, with the one-two punch of the People's Choice Awards and the Golden Globes, and we are giddy with anticipation. And no, not to see our favorite movies and TV shows collect some hardware as their stars and creators thank their agents --- c'mon, you know us better than that. We watch for those magical unscripted moments that happen thanks to someone pre-partying a little too hard, or, in the case of the Globes, hitting that free bubbly at the tables (Glenn Close GIF, we love you forever). It's a magical thing that happens to stars big (Liz Taylor!) and small (aw, Lil Mama), at all kinds of kudosfests. Here we're counting down our 10 favoritesssst munk droments:
10. Meryl Streep Thinks Of England, 2012 Golden Globe Awards
After winning Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for The Iron Lady, the revered thespian --- who's won a few of these things before --- appeared extremely flustered onstage. "Oh, shhhhhhhh.... Oh, my glasses," she said, and attempted to give her speech by memory. She was still awesome and gracious, of course, but also even more lovable for her slightly tipsy appearance.
9. Queen Latifah Rescues Renee Zellweger, 2013 Oscars
For last year's musical-themed show, the cast of Chicago reunited to present the award for Best Original Score. Visibly swaying on her feet, Renee seemed confused when Richard Gere held up the envelope for her to read the winner, but Queen Latifah swiftly jumped in. Phew! It made us think back fondly to the time Zellweger almost missed getting her Golden Globe in 2001 'cause she was in the bathroom.
8. We Know Lil Mama's State Of Mind, 2009 MTV VMAs
If Lil Mama had been the first person to crash the stage at the 2009 VMAs, we would have paid a little bit more attention to her, um, spontaneous cameo during Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' performance. But instead you might recall another, much more discussed unscripted moment from that show (and if you don't, keep reading).
7. Aubrey Plaza Tries To Steal Will Ferrell's Popcorn, 2013 MTV Movie Awards
"What's happening?" Will Ferrell asked as a barefoot Aubrey Plaza walked onstage and tried to pry his Comedic Genius prize out of his hands. The Parks and Rec star silently returned to her seat, spilled her drink and was soon escorted out of the building. Now that IS comedic genius.
6. Joan Rivers Vs. Australia, 2006 Logie Awards
Apparently, Rivers prepared for her gig as a co-presenter for this Australian TV awards show by sampling the country's finest spirits. Her intoxicated takedowns of Tom Cruise, fellow presenter Richard Wilkins and the show's prize ("It's the ugliest award I have ever seen!") is funnier than anything we've seen her do on her shows in years. "I don't know why the f I'm here!" she says at one point. For our supreme entertainment, Ms. Rivers.
5. The Rat Pack Launches A Tradition, 1958 Golden Globes
In the show's early years, the Golden Globes were handed out by the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. In 1958, however, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. "stormed the stage, with whiskeys and cigarettes in tow, and took over the show, to the delight of the audience," the HFPA says on their site. Thanks, guys!
4. Mariah Carey Is "A Little Bit, Um, Yeah," 2010 Palm Springs International Film Festival
Just because this show wasn't televised live doesn't mean we all didn't get to enjoy the sweet, drunk gushing of Mariah Carey accepting her Breakthrough Actress award for Precious Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire from director Lee Daniels. She even managed to share some love for "the genius Helen Mirren," apropos of nothing. Loopy Mimi at her best.
3. Kanye West, We're Never Gonna Let You Finish This, 2009 VMAs
[mtvn_player vid="948627"]
Many, many words have been written about Yeezy's liquor-fueled defense of Beyonce's "Single Ladies," at the expense of a Taylor Swift "surprised" speech. If you're wondering why it's not #1 on this list, you've forgotten about these other two...
2. Anna Nicole Smith Looooves Kanye, 2004 American Music Awards
"If I ever record an album I want this guy to produce my make me beautiful dueeeettts ‘cause he’s freaking genius." Gosh, we miss you, Anna.
1. Elizabeth Taylor Is "New" At This, 2001 Golden Globes
Elizabeth Taylor, winner of two Oscars and four Golden Globes (including the Cecil B. Demille award), somehow forgot that she was supposed to read the nominees before announcing the winners. Good thing Dick Clark was there to help her out. Awww. We hope they're giving each other all the awards in heaven.
