People Are Actually Defending the Soap Star Who Criticized Viola Davis' Flawless Emmys Speech
Leave it to some moron on the Internet to criticize a flawless, inspiring, history-making moment FOR.NO.REASON. Viola Davis blew us away last night with her grace and beautifully-spoken speech as the first African American woman to accept the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her bril work on HTGAWM. Then, General Hospital actress Nancy Lee Grahn came out of the woodwork to criticize it. Her argument made no sense and was arguably offensive, causing the Twitter trolls to rightfully come out on the prowl. Yet here we are, and she has randos in her corner.
Here's part of Viola's perf AF speech: “Let me tell you something: the only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there.”
And Nancy's response and aggressive attempts to win back the thousands of users she pissed TF off.
In a since-deleted tweet, she also said: "Im a f---ing actress for 40 yrs. None of us get respect or opportunity we deserve. Emmys not venue 4 racial opportunity. ALL women belittled."
Right.
As you can imagine, the Twitter trolls had a ball in tearing Nancy into the tiniest of shreds only ants can see, calling her things like "racist" and a "hateful bitch." And those are the nice comments. But, let's not forget, it is Twitter. And even though her statement was completely thoughtless, irrational, and dumb AF, there are people out there defending her, as such:
And FTW, this v. committed fan.
