Was Beyonce Aware of This Controversy Involving the Editor-In-Chief of Her Latest Magazine Cover?

Beyonce is on the cover of another magazine and chances are, you've never owned a hard copy of it.

Garage is a "biannual publication dedicated to contemporary art and fashion," according to Wikipedia. The magazine was founded by Dasha Zhukova, a businesswoman and art collector who founded Moscow's Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in 2008. Zhukova is married to Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, who is worth $7.8 billion, making him the 137th richest person in the world.

In a post titled #TeamGarage X Beyonce, Garage announced that a big reveal involving Bey is underway for their tenth issue. From Garage:

"In this special Noº10 Issue, GARAGE worked with the internationally renowned artist, Urs Fischer, to deliver a sharp collection of portraits with global icon, Beyoncé.

The story continues with exclusive words from Beyoncé herself, soon to be activated within the GARAGE Mag App upon scanning Page 70."

Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss and Cara Delevingne—none of whom are as big as Beyonce—have all posed for the magazine in the past, with Cara on the cover three times. Annual subscriptions cost $26.50 and the mag also has an app that you can download.

Beyonce's feature has yet to come out and while us patient plebeians wait to see what "exclusive words" will come from our queen, here's an interesting fact about Editor-In-Chief Zhukova: She once posed for Buro 24/7 (another obscure publication) and sat on a chair that looked like it was being held up by a mannequin of a black woman.

Zhukova's 2014 photograph was seen as racist by many and Buro 24/7 cropped the mannequin out of the photo. Zhukova claimed that it was originally meant to be a "commentary on gender and racial politics," and apologized for the controversy, saying, "I utterly abhor racism and would like to apologize to those offended by my participation in this shoot."

We wonder if Beyonce, fresh off her "Formation" black power Super Bowl performance, was aware of this before she posed for the cover. Probably, right? The queen stays woke.
