Remember Her? Catching Up with Original Basketball Wives Star Erikka Moxam
Erikka Moxam was slated to be one of the stars of the original Basketball Wives but her role went from a main cast member featured in promo materials, to a friend of-type of role, to faded out completely. VH1 caught up with Erikka recently about what exactly happened with her departure and what her life has been like since she tried reality TV for a hot minute.
You appeared in promos and trailers for the original Basketball Wives. Were you supposed to be a main cast member?
Erikka Moxam: Yes.
What changed for you during production of the show that put you in a smaller role? Was it your decision or a production call?
I believe Shaunie O'Neal and the rest of the producers at the time had some hard decisions to make in regards to our group and the storyline. I pretty much fell off the radar once we filmed my ex and I having dinner in LA. I think it was "closure" for all parties really.
Are you still in touch with your ex-boyfriend Rasual Butler?
No. We do, however, share very close friends.
Who was your connection in the circle of women in Miami?
Jennifer Williams and Evelyn Lozada were close friends of mine. [Rasual] also played with Shaunie's ex-husband in Miami for some years as well.
Do you remain friends with any of the women from either Basketball Wives franchise?
No, not currently. Surprisingly enough however, my ex also played with Malaysia Pargo's ex-husband [Jannero Pargo] in New Orleans/Oklahoma for some years as well. So we were cordial during those years.
What has life been like for you since Basketball Wives? Do you live a relatively low-key life in comparison to the life of a ball player's wife?
To the contrary, not quite...even though that was the goal initially. [Laughs] My husband is Caribbean-American Grammy Award Winning producer, Jason Gilbert. I'm finding much of the dynamic in my marriage to mirror somewhat the fast pace of my previous relationship scene but we make it our own and slow down when we need to and keep up when we have to. That alone makes a difference. You see we're both island people so the ability to balance chill vibes, haste and pomp comes naturally for both of us.
Do you have any regrets in tipping your toe in reality TV?
No regrets, it was a learning experience to say the least.
