Ellie Goulding Clears Up Ed Sheeran Dating Rumors Once and For All

We have good news and bad news.

For two long, excruciating years, you've been wondering if your angelic acoustic master Ed Sheeran was romantically tied with sweet songbird, Ellie Goulding. As mentioned, we have good news and bad news.

It's been a confusing time for us all, because neither party really confirmed nor denied their relationship status. They were spotted holding hands in public. Rumors also claimed each one was writing songs about the other, and those were never confirmed either. The one you may recall most is that Ed's "Don't" is about Ellie (some say she "cheated" on him with Niall Horan). However, he himself said: "I never actually confirmed it." The latest is that Ellie's "On My Mind" is actually about Ed. To summarize: nothing has been confirmed.

That is, until, Ellie spoke with Seventeen and put the rumors to rest.

The numbers are in, and it looks like the two were never actually a pair. Here's what she told the mag:

"We’ve known each other for a few years. I think he’s a really nice guy and a brilliant musician. We’ve bumped into each other and we’ve hung out and stuff, but the thing is if I hang out with someone, it’s instantly like I’m 'dating' them. We were never in a relationship. My song is not about him."

Lots of emotions, we know. Want the bad news first? OK. The idea of these two not being a couple is devastating. Imagine what turn-of-the-century love songs and vocally-inclined, gingery-blonde babies they would make together.

The good news is: we all now have a (very realistic) shot at being with both of them.

Cheers, kids. May the odds be ever in your favor.

And while you battle it out, learn about Ed's inspiration for his song "Lego House."
