Chris Rock and Wife Malaak Compton-Rock File for Divorce
Everything is going well for Chris Rock in the theaters, thanks to his new comedy Top Five, but not so much on the home front. After nearly 20 years of marriage with wife Malaak Compton-Rock – a philanthropist and founder of the nonprofit styleWORKS – the two have decided to call it quits.
On Sunday, Malaak put out a statement regarding the issue. "After much contemplation and 19 years of marriage, Chris and I have decided to go our separate ways," she says. "Being fortunate enough to lead a life of service by working with those most vulnerable makes me well aware of life's blessings, even when faced with difficulties. She goes on to add, "While recognizing that this is a significant change, my children remain at the center of my life and their well-being is my top priority. It is in this spirit that I sincerely ask that their privacy and the privacy of our family be respected during this transition in our lives."
Chris' attorney, Robert S. Cohen, has already confirmed that couple has split and asks for privacy as they go through this process and focus on their family. Chris and Malaak tied the knot back in 1996, and currently live in New Jersey with their two daughters Lola Simone (12) and Zahra Savannah (10).
Top Five actor J.B. Smoove discusses how Rock took the reins as writer, director, and star of the film.
