Kim Kardashian Explains Why She Didn't Invite Her Surrogate to the Lavish Baby Shower

Those who checked out the pictures from Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's cherry-blossomed filled baby shower over the weekend noticed a very important person missing in action: the surrogate carrying their baby.

During an appearance with daytime show The Real to promote her new line of fragrances, Kim was asked about her opulent shower and whether or not she decided to invite her surrogate. “I did not,” she confirmed. “I introduced her to my family earlier that day, and I just thought … I don’t know, it was a weird decision to have to make."

But she definitely had a really good reason for why something that seems so obvious didn't happen. Her answer makes a lot of sense.

“Of course I would have wanted her to be there, and be a part of it, but I hadn’t really gone that far in explaining it to my kids yet. I think I have to explain it to my kids first, and figure out how I’m going to explain it to them. So I have to figure that out first before they really see, and then if we’re celebrating, you know, her … I just wanted to celebrate the baby.”

Kim and Kanye opted for surrogacy after discovering that another pregnancy would be life threatening for the reality TV star and a baby. Kim suffered from a serious condition preeclampsia while pregnant with her oldest daughter North, and also placenta accreta with both pregnancies.

She also revealed that her surrogate, at first, didn't know who she'd be carrying for. Though she had the option to keep her identity anonymous, Kim decided it was best to be introduced. “What if they weren’t a fan of me or my husband?” she explains. “What if they didn’t want to be carrying our baby? I wanted to give them that choice.”

Though we don't know exactly who Kim's surrogate is, she says the two have a great relationship. “I love her. I have the best relationship with my surrogate. She’s so nice. She’s the perfect person to do this for my family.”
