Erykah Badu And The Rest Of The World Need To Leave Iggy Azalea Alone Now

Erykah Badu served up some next-level tea last night.

The 2015 BET Soul Train Awards host caused a ruckus when she clapped back at a fan on Twitter, declared that R. Kelly has "done more for black folks than anybody" (a truly special moment in itself) and most popularly, when she shaded Iggy Azalea. It's this bit about Iggy from Erykah's opening monologue that sent Twitter into a frenzy with hilarious reaction gifs and memes, but it also makes us wonder: When will the Iggy jokes get old?

Iggy Iggs has been nowhere to be found lately. The world practically begged her to stop rapping after The New Classic was nominated for Best Rap Album at the Grammys. She put out "Pretty Girls" with Britney Spears in the spring, and that was a total bust—ditto for the video. This past September, T.I. tried to cut ties with her because let's face it, no one actually knows what she's saying when she raps. Demi Lovato lent her a helping hand by inviting her to rap on "Kingdom Come," and though this was kind, it was totally unnecessary and hardly a comeback from the "Pretty Girls" collab.

Iggy has become a pariah in the music world and what's more is that she seems to be well aware of this. She doesn't appear to be making new music. In fact, she doesn't appear to be doing much of anything other than prepping for her marriage to Nick Young. She hasn't given us any reason to talk about her lately. So why are we still making jokes about her?

I laughed at the Iggy joke when I heard it, but it was a cheap laugh for a cheap joke. Iggy has been MIA and it feels like that's a direct result of her taking the hint and staying away from the microphone and out of the limelight. She doesn't seem to want to make a comeback in the music world, and here's hoping that she doesn't. If anything, she can move forward with a career in modeling.

I'm no Iggy stan, but I'll be the first to say that the jokes about her are getting real old real fast. Has music actually been so boring that we're still on Iggy's tail? I'm one more "she doesn't rap" joke away from writing a piece on all of the ways "Black Widow" featuring Rita Ora is an underrated, life-changing song. (It's not.)

Let's all agree to leave Iggy alone for real. She's had a rough year, guys, and she genuinely seems down about that. Besides, I think the last thing we should be doing is giving her more material for a comeback album. Don't you?
