Who is JOHNNYSWIM? Well, for starters, they are VH1's latest You Oughta Know artist. And although the origins of the name JOHNNYSWIM remain clouded in mystery, the husband/wife duo of Abner Ramirez and Amanda Sudano-Ramirez are ready to let their remarkable music do the talking.
The pair recently sat down with our pals over at VH1 News for this profile, which sheds some light on the inspiration of the duo's first big single, "Heart Beats." It turns out that the song was penned around the time that Sudano's mother, Donna Summer, was on the receiving end of some very difficult news. "It started a while back, I guess, about a year or two when my mom was diagnosed with cancer," Amanda admits, "and we kind of just wrote it in this moment of 'I just want to escape it all.'" The lush and melancholy song is a worthy tribute to the late Donna Summer, who passed away a little over a year ago now.
