Songwriter Linda Perry Takes LGBT Awareness To A New Level

Producer and songwriter Linda Perry, who’s penned hits for Pink, Christina Aguilera, and Gwen Stefani, has put her clout behind the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center to raise awareness about issues affecting the LGBT community.

Perry’s recent fundraising event, An Evening With Women, was hosted by Kathy Griffin and featured performances from Natasha Bedingfield, Sia, and Ozzy Osbourne (yes, that Ozzy Osbourne).

“Sharon offered up Ozzy,” says Perry. “I wasn’t sure if he knew he was going to be playing. He just showed up and said, ‘What am I doing?’” she joked. “But he was awesome. My mother, my 83-year-old mother was off her chair!” Watch the clip below to check out highlights from the festivities.

Perry originally got involved with the LGBT center after they repeatedly invited her to their events. She soon realized she could take the center's shindigs to the next level. "It needed to be bigger," says Perry, and about six years ago, she began annually spearheading An Evening With Women. Her involvement has definitely elevated the event's profile, easily selling out the past two bashes. This year's gathering, held May 18,  has already raised $600,000.

All the success has Perry pumped for 2014's event. "F*ck yeah, we're on our way!" she says. "Next year, we gotta make it better!"
