Iggy Azalea’s Fancy, Booty-Filled 2014
By Chris Carpenter (@chriscarplive)
Iggy Azalea had a pretty dope 2014, you guys. Sure, the Aussie rapper-slash-sometimes-model was fairly buzzed about in 2013—however, it was her breakthrough joint “Fancy,” that infiltrated all of the world’s cars, clubs, cubicles and retirement communities for a better portion of this year. That portion was super great.

After making some history (but, for real – read on), supplying the planet with back-to-back smashes, becoming besties with Charli XCX (everything just feels so right when they’re together), nabbing two American Music Awards, a BET Award, four Grammy noms and getting into a strange Internet beef with Snoop Dogg – Iggy wasn’t lying when told us that she was in the fast lane. You know, from LA to Tokyo. Let's take a look back at her amazing 2014!
February
Iggy, then a relatively unknown MC, dropped her infectious jam “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX. And, boom. The entire world got all, “I’m so fan-say, you already know.”
March
Iggy blew our minds when she channeled her inner-Cher Horowitz and recreated Clueless for the “Fancy” video.

May
“Problem” officially debuts at number 3 on Billboard Hot 100 chart.
[caption id="attachment_309060" align="aligncenter" width="500"] [GIF: MTV][/caption]Iggy translated “Fancy” for old people (because, that slang stuff…) on Jimmy Kimmel Live and then performed it!
[caption id="attachment_309061" align="aligncenter" width="600"] [GIF: ABC][/caption]Then Iggy made some more history! With “Fancy” at number 1 and “Problem” peaking at 2, Iggy matched The Beatles (yep, The Beatles – the ones your parents sometimes talk about) as the only acts, like, ever to simultaneously hold the top spots with their first two Hot 100 hits. Fancy, indeed.
But Iggy wasn’t done making them hits, you guys. She teamed up with her godfather T.I. on the smash “No Mediocre,” where she rapped about things like wearing designer sunglasses at basketball games.
Later in June, Iggy went to the BET Awards where Nicki Minaj shaded her during her acceptance speech for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist. (Nicki is the naughtiest.)
[caption id="attachment_309063" align="aligncenter" width="631"] [GIF: Buzzfeed][/caption]Iggy went on to perform at the show and seemed pretty unfazed. And took home the Who Blew Up Award. Don’t forget, she’s super fancy. Duh.
Then Iggy landed on the cover of Billboard. June was the busiest.
Later, Iggy released her second cut off The New Classic “Black Widow” featuring Rita Ora – where the duo promised that they were gonna love us (gonna love us, gonna love us, gonna love us) like a black widow, baby. That’s a good thing, right?
Iggy wore a sparkly bodysuit and performed in front of a giant spider web with Rita at the VMAs. She also scored a Moonman with Ariana for Best Pop Video.

September
“Fancy” was declared the song of the summer by Billboard. Shoot, Iggs! Get ‘em.
September got extra steamy when Iggy shook her stuff with J.Lo for the sahh-weltering “Booty” video. Humans worldwide watched the clip on repeat for several days.
October
Things got awk-city when ancient rapper Snoop Dogg cyber bullied Iggy for a few strange days. He enjoyed belittling her by comparing her to Marlon Wayans’ character from White Chicks—among other things. But Iggs was all, “Hell naw, Internet troll!” and dressed as—what else?—Marlon Wayans’ character from White Chicks for Halloween and hung out with J.Lo and Demi Lovato.
[caption id="attachment_309078" align="aligncenter" width="615"] [Photo: @jlo][/caption]Iggy declared that everyone wanted to put their hands on her (we slowly nodded our heads), when she dropped “Beg for It” featuring Mø (not to be confused with Lil’ Mo) as the lead single off Reclassified, the reissue The New Classic.
[caption id="attachment_309080" align="aligncenter" width="615"] [Photo: Def Jam, Virgin EMI][/caption]I-G-G-Y hit up 30 Rock as the musical guest on SNL, and served up a fierce medley of “Fancy” and “Black Window.” And… yeah, a rather awkward performance of “Beg for It.” Can’t win ‘em all, friends.

November
Because one Iggy album wasn’t enough for 2014, J.Lo’s booty-poppin’ bestie hit us with Reclassified. The latest cut gave the world five new songs and guest features from Jennifer Hudson, Ellie Goulding and previously mentioned Mø (again, not to be confused with Lil’ Mo).
