'Couples Therapy': Was Joe Wrong To Dig Into Dustin's Gay Porn Past?

While the four couples have had some time to get to know each other, there is one late-arriving Couples Therapy duo that doesn't have the benefit of having bonded over bowling breakdowns or a ropes course. Real World alums Dustin Zito and Heather Marter entered the house towards the end of last night's episode, and their anxiety about walking into an unfamiliar setting was palpable. It likely doesn't make the situation any better when Joe Francis is running around like a teenage boy laughing at the results a simple Google search of their names brings up.
If you watched Dustin and Heather on their earlier reality show, you know the story of how their seemingly fairytale romance came crashing down once Heather discovered Dustin had previously worked in the gay porn industry. While this information is available to anyone with an Internet connection--even more so now that their Real World season has aired--the housemates seemed oblivious to his story, yet eager to play a "prank" on the new kids in town. No stranger to computers, Joe led the charge in searching for dirt on Dustin and was visibly stunned with what he found: "I mean, 'Oh my God' is all I have to say. Oh my God."
Laughing, casting judgments, and inviting others to do the same ("Go get Flav!"), without so much as asking a few questions, does not an open and welcoming person make. "I am not against homosexuality at all, I'm against closeted homosexuality because I think it's dishonest to say something you're not and be in a relationship with a girl that if you're not," Joe explained. It's one thing to learn a little bit more about those you're spending time with, but it's another to make someone the punchline to your stable of offensive jokes before you've even said so much as hello. "We can't go everything off of the Internet, we can't judge him off the Internet," Tyler said. Once again, VOICE OF REASON! Can't wait until the next group session.
Was Joe's background check "all in good fun," or did he set a negative tone by digging into Dustin's past without getting to know him first?
