Kim Kardashian Calls Taylor Swift out for "Playing the Victim Again" After 'Life of Pablo' Controversy
Gotta love a good tea-spilling.
In a fabulously well-written GQ feature by Caity Weaver, Kim Kardashian strips down (she's literally naked) and opens up. Kardashian spoke to Weaver about stepfather Caitlyn Jenner's highly publicized transition, what she found in O.J. Simpson's bag ("toiletries and clothes and golf clothes") and her husband's recently reignited beef with Taylor Swift.
After revealing that Kanye rapping about sleeping with other women doesn't bother her "at all," Kardashian shared her (or rather, 'Ye's) side to the story of that infamous "Famous" phone call between him and Swift. According to Kardashian, Swift lied about being upset about the lyric, which, if you need a reminder, goes as follows: "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that b-tch famous".
Kardashian also said the whole phone conversation was filmed, as Kanye often hires videographers to film him while he's recording new music "for posterity (and possibly, one day, a documentary)." From GQ:
"'She totally approved that,' Kim says, shaking her head in annoyance. 'She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn't. I swear, my husband gets so much sh-t for things [when] he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved.' ... 'What rapper would call a girl that he was rapping a line about to get approval?'"
You might recall that Kanye tweeted about his phone call with Swift in February, saying, "She thought it was funny and gave her blessings." Swift's camp issued a statement, saying she "was never made aware of the actual lyric 'I made that b-tch famous'" and that she had warned 'Ye about "releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message."
Unless Kimye releases video footage of the phone call (assuming, of course, footage actually exists), the public will never know what really happened. Judging from Kardashian's interview, it's unlikely the footage will ever come out.
"Swift, Kim insists, 'totally gave the okay. Rick Rubin was there. So many respected people in the music business heard that [conversation] and knew. I mean, he's called me a b-tch in his songs. That's just, like, what they say. I never once think, [gasping] ‘What a derogatory word! How dare he?’ Not in a million years. I don't know why she just, you know, flipped all of a sudden.… It was funny because [on the call with Kanye, Taylor] said, ‘When I get on the Grammy red carpet, all the media is going to think that I'm so against this, and I'll just laugh and say, ‘The joke's on you, guys. I was in on it the whole time.’ And I'm like, wait, but [in] your Grammy speech, you completely dissed my husband just to play the victim again.'"
Swift received criticism for passive aggressively calling out Kanye at this year's Grammys. Looks like things have come full circle, since Kardashian not-so-passive-aggressively called out Swift for "playing the victim again."
Leave it to Kim K to tell us how she really feels.
