The 'Mean Girls' Musical Is Going to Be the Best Effing Thing of All Time

Guys, a Mean Girls musical is happening. I repeat: a Mean Girls musical is happening. Talk of turning the 2004 film into a musical has been going on since 2013, but Tina Fey's husband Jeff Richmond just confirmed they're working on the project together, and it's almost finished. (This is the part when you freak out.)

The 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt composer tells Yahoo! "there's been quite a lot of progress" on the musical, and he's working with Tony Award nominee Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) on the lyrics. "We’ve been working for a long time now. I’m going to say it’s like 60 percent written, and it’s being staffed creatively," he explains. "We are looking to do some actual solid readings coming around this summer."

Are you crying yet?

Sadly he says a number called "Fetch" "does not exist" — and probably never will — but there's already "Old Blonde Song" sung by Regina’s mother (the ultimate of "cool moms"). CALLING AMY POEHLER.

Fey and Richmond have yet to make casting announcements but we're going to need some of this:
