If You Love Ruby Rose, You May Love Her Mom Even More

Get inspired by, and be eternally grateful for, Ruby's rockstar mom.

Ruby Rose is your new fashion, bae, LGBTQ, and everything icon, and it's time you meet the woman you can thank for that. In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Ruby explained that her mom, Katia Langenheim, was her undying support system, especially in her most crucial times of need. Katia helped mold Ruby into the woman you admire and respect and obsess over today, but let's take it back so you can see why.

At just 20-years-old, Ruby's "rebellious" mom took her daughter on the run from her abusive father. Although they lived through poverty, surviving off mashed potatoes and beans, Katie earned a degree and eventually established their living situation through the church. “I want that to inspire other people," Ruby told Vanity Fair. "I’m saying we didn’t have much, and we made a lot of out of it.”

Ruby tells Access Hollywood that she started saving money in a jar for a sex transition when she was about 5-years-old but never went through with it. Although she was brutally bullied growing up, with self-love and support from her mom, she came out, embracing her identity as a teen.

When I got to 15, I kind of decided to get more into my body and I shaved my head and my mom was just like, "I don’t know what’s going on right now, but if you are happy, then do it." I started to change the way that I dressed and talked, and realized that I didn’t want to transition, I just wanted to be more comfortable in my own skin.

Flash forward to 2014, when Ruby's bold short "Break Free" broke the Internet, altering the way we perceive gender.

As for Ruby's badass artistic and style instincts, she got 'em from her momma. "My mom is a painter and an artist. She would play music and she always had very good taste in music, fashion, and art," she told Interview. "She had really good style, she was really free... just really inspiring in her own way, and allowed me to find the direction I wanted to take in my life."

Bow down to the new queen in town, Katia Langheim.
