Zendaya Says She Was Refused Service at a Supermarket Because of Her "Skin Tone"

The clerk allegedly threw the young star's wallet back at her.

Zendaya was refused service at a supermarket; she says racism is to blame.

"The lady that was helping us...I don't think she was was a huge fan of our skin tone," the Spider-Man: Homecoming actress told her Snapchat followers after the incident. "I can't make this s—t up," she went on to say.

Zendaya says that the drama started when she attempted to purchase $400 in gift cards and alleges that the clerk threw the her wallet back at her. "'You can't afford this,' is how she looked at me," said the pop star.

"Long story short, there's so much progress to be done in our world," she continued.

This isn't the first time that Zendaya has been faced with racially charged issues. Internet trolls recently got upset when she was cast as the traditionally white Mary Jane in the upcoming Spider-Man movie. Last year, she called out Giuliana Rancic for offensive comments about her hair on Fashion Police.
