Tamera “TY” Young is a retired 12- year WNBA veteran and CEO of TY1 Gear, her signature clothing line. Young graduated from James Madison University in 2008 majoring in Kinesiology, at that time ranking as the Colonial Athletic Association and JMU’s Women’s basketball career scoring leader, and no. 2 career rebounders. She was inducted into the JMU Athletic Hall Of Fame in 2018. Young is the first James Madison University player to be drafted to the WNBA; as a First-round draft pick (#8 pick overall) by Atlanta Dream in 2008. She played 9 seasons with the Chicago Sky, and 2 seasons with the Las Vegas Aces. Young announced her WNBA retirement in 2021, as she shifts focus towards her entrepreneurship, work in the TV, film, & media spaces, and advocacy for Pancreatic Cancer, which her father passed from in 2015. In April 2024 she joined Chicago Sky as an assistant coach to Teresa Weatherspoon, where she served for a year.
